May's news
I have great news for pork-lovers and pig-haters alike - the first of my pigs is off to the butchers next month! Pork will be available for purchase from Thursday 25th May, just in time for the bank holiday weekend, so let’s hope the sun’s out for all our obligatory barbecues. Beat the rush and order your pork in advance; we’ll have joints, chops, sausages - the lot! Just ask in shop. May I express publicly my thanks to those who have had to put up with my porcine pals neighbouring their gardens for the last few months. What better way to reward yourself than indulging in the fruits of our strife. You know who you are.
Now, back to the main topic... vegetables!
May sees the return of a popular product... the humble lettuce. We’ll have our usual trio of favourite varieties - the luscious ‘green oak’, vibrant ‘red batavia’, and crunchy ‘maureen’ little gem. It is a lunch-time staple round the Gold Hill table, with some Mrs Mack’s Poppyseed dressing - we highly recommend it! This month also ushers in spring onions, asparagus, and peas. All organic, freshly and manually picked.
Lastly, we’re so excited about this year’s Open Farm Sunday that we’re giving you two month’s warning! This year, Open Farm Sunday lands on Sunday 11th June, and we’ve teamed up with Dorset Wildlife Trust and the National Trust to bring you a day full of engaging and educational activities. With the usual contributions from the ever-delicious cafe, the art gallery, and other local producers, Open Farm Sunday looks set to be better than ever. Make sure to put it in your diaries! More info next month, or on our website.
